It is a great place for all lovers and admirers of animals. A big tiger lives in this zoo (of course, it is safely separated from the visitor’s part of the garden).
In the neighborhood of the dreamy Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle and the Ohrada Hunting Castle, you can visit the Zoo Hluboká, which is a state-funded institution of the South Bohemian Region. According to tradition, it focuses on breeding the local species with the extension to animals from Europe and Asia, but there are also exposition from Australia, America, and Africa. Nowadays, it has about 256 species of animals; over 2,000 animals, including 692 birds of 146 species, 205 reptiles of 24 species, and 62 fish of 19 species. In the area of the Zoo, there is a summer children’s theater, which is partially roofed. There is also a number of events held not only for children, such as the Evening fairy-tale Zoo tour or a special exhibition of ants.
How to get there?
Several bus lines run from the bus station in České Budějovice. We recommend using only local bus lines (not coaches, e.g. going to Prague), because the shortest way is from one stop before Hluboká nad Vltavou, where coaches do not stop at all. The second possibility is to use line No. 4, but its driving time is longer. If you belong to the lovers of rail transport, we recommend a train journey along the line 190 towards Strakonice. Hluboká nad Vltavou is the second stop, but beware: only selected trains have a stop here, so it is necessary to check whether you can use a particular train for your trip. From the railway stop follow tourists signs.
